David Sedlak

Sedlak is the Malozemoff Professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering; co-director of the Berkeley Water Center; and director of the Institute for Environmental Science and Engineering. His research focuses on the fate of chemical contaminants, with the goal of developing cost-effective, safe, and sustainable systems to manage water resources. He is particularly interested in practices that support the development of local sources of water, such as potable water recycling and storm water harvesting. Sedlak serves as the editor-in-chief of the American Chemical Society journal, Environmental Science & Technology, and is the author of a book for general audiences titled Water 4.0: The Past, Present and Future of the World’s Most Vital Resource. He received a B.S. in environmental science from Cornell University in 1986 and a Ph.D. in water chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1992.
